Why Chocolate Prices Are Changing
We know price changes can feel frustrating - especially when you’ve been loyal to Chocosphere for years. As new owners, we want to be transparent about what’s happening behind the scenes and why chocolate prices have shifted.
Global Tariffs
Many of the chocolates we carry are imported, and some now face tariffs of up to 50%. These fees aren’t paid by foreign chocolate makers - they’re paid by Chocosphere when we bring products into the U.S. That cost lands directly on our invoices, and while we absorb what we can, some increases are unavoidable.
And it’s not just imported brands, American chocolate makers source cacao from overseas. Due to tariffs on those ingredients, they’ve added “tariff fees” to their invoices - charges that get passed down to us, and ultimately the retail market.
Tariffs are just one piece of the puzzle, but they’ve had a real impact on chocolate prices across the board.
Climate Change & Cacao Supply
Chocolate starts with cacao - and cacao is a crop that’s deeply vulnerable to climate shifts. In recent years, cacao-growing regions have faced rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and severe droughts. These conditions have led to lower yields, crop failures, and increased costs for farmers.
In 2024, global chocolate prices rose sharply as supply chains strained under these environmental pressures. Some farms had to reduce production or invest in costly climate adaptation strategies just to survive. That ripple effect reaches all the way to us - and ultimately to you.
We source from makers who care deeply about sustainability and ethical farming. But even the most responsible producers are facing real challenges. Climate change isn’t just a future concern; it’s already reshaping the chocolate industry.
Our Commitment to Ethical Sourcing
At Chocosphere, we don’t just sell chocolate, we build relationships with makers who care deeply about sustainability, fair labor, and environmental responsibility. Many of the brands we carry are actively investing in climate resilience, supporting cacao farmers through education, reforestation, and regenerative agriculture.
We choose our partners carefully, not just for flavor and quality, but for their values. Even as costs rise, we remain committed to sourcing chocolate that’s thoughtful, ethical, and built to last.
